Configuring KS to Use the Data Connector

To configure KS to use the On-Prem Data Connector to monitor data in a locally installed application, follow these steps:

  • Open the KS Event Manager module and click on the Application Events branch.
  • Click on the application you wish to connect to your local database to highlight.
  • Click on the New Connection button.
  • Give the connection a description, such as "On-Prem ERP App".
  • Select KnowledgeSync.CognyticsDataConnector as the Data Provider. The Database Type defaults to SQLServer; change this value if the on-prem database is other than SQLServer.
  • Enter the name of the on-prem database server in the Server Name field.

Note: Click the checkbox in the Encrypted column next to the server name and next to any field listed below to mask the information on the screen.

  • Enter the name of the on-prem database in the Database Name field. (Needed for SQLServer; not needed for some other database types, such as MS Access.)
  • Enter the credentials (if needed) for the on-prem database in the Username and Password fields.
  • Enter the File Access URL to connect to the database. Example path: http://hosted:port/api/FileAccess/. 
  • Enter the File Path Prefix. Example: folderLocationInHosted. 
  • Paste the Client Unique Key value copied from the installation of the On-Prem Data Connector on the local machine into the Client Unique Key field.
  • If the on-prem application uses a SQLServer database, select SQL as the Provider. If the on-prem application uses a non-SQL database (such as Oracle or Access), please select from the 32- or 64-bit ODBC options and then choose the corresponding ODBC connection – which may prompt additional connection credentials.
  • Click on the Test Connection to validate connectivity to your on-prem app.
  • If applicable, click the Specify Connection String checkbox and add the information into the field.

Note that the Advanced tab can be used to accommodate any database-specific commands (or characters) that may be needed for connecting to the desired application. Please change these advanced values only if instructed to do so by the KS ITC Support staff.
